Statement of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice

At Williams, we believe that a diverse, inclusive and equitable school community contributes to an overall academic program of excellence by ensuring that a broad range of perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds help to form open minds and open hearts within our school and beyond. At Williams, we will be an anti-racist, inclusive community, striving for justice, celebrating the diversity and uniqueness of each person. We recognize the need to continually learn, to grow and to evolve as an educational institution. In doing so, we will ensure that each member of our community feels a sense of belonging and a place to discover, recognize, and appreciate unique gifts and talents.

Guided by our school motto of Honor Before Honors, we will continually engage in the exploration of identity, culture, social justice, racism, and systems that have historically given privilege and advantage to some while perpetuating disadvantage of others. At Williams, we will continue to evaluate our curriculum with the aim to decolonize the classroom through diversity of materials and content, addressing social justice issues, embracing more diverse language usage, and involving students in conversations and age appropriate actions that promote social justice in our school community. We will strive to continually seek to be inclusive of all persons, sending forth students who appreciate and recognize the value that comes from a diverse, equitable and inclusive community. At Williams, we will equip our students to be leaders of change as they go forth into the world.

We are committed to being a diverse, equitable and inclusive school community. As educators, we recognize our responsibility to teach and model antiracism to our students. Respect, trust, self-examination, open mindedness, and sharing of our own stories and experiences are all part of who we are as a community. At Williams, everyone has a place, everyone has value, and everyone belongs.
