Philosophy

Williams prioritizes innovation in teaching and learning through an ever-evolving curriculum and pedagogy with evidence based shifts and leaps in our education of students.

We will inspire inquiry, ignite curiosity, and encourage innovation and adaptability through the instruction of and engagement with each student. Williams School students will be the change they are inspired to envision in the world. We will live locally while thinking and acting globally.

In support of our mission, Williams will incorporate into our philosophy key concepts that underscore our commitment to educating the whole child in an environment of inclusion, inspired teaching and learning, with an emphasis on integrity and responsibility. Of key importance will be our partnership with parents in support of the success of each student.

Philosophy
We will ensure that we recognize the individuality of each child by creating a child-centered environment.

We will ensure that we recognize the individuality of each child by creating a child-centered environment.

We will provide substantial attention to each student through a low student/ teacher ratio. As a lab school, we will exercise flexibility in our approach to teaching, using innovative approaches to accomplish academic goals through the implementation of a rigorous curriculum. We will strive to keep work challenging for students at all levels and to maintain engagement through a variety of instructional platforms as appropriate for age and grade levels.

We will strive to always be a community of inclusion, celebrating the uniqueness each student and family brings to Williams as a reflection of our mission.

This sense of inclusion and diversity will be reflected throughout our school community and in the curriculum that guides our instruction.

We will instill in our students a love and respect for honesty, integrity, and responsibility as members of our school community.

The foundational motto of Williams, Honor Before Honors, underscores this. In that regard, we will guide and model for our students the principles of respect for the rights and needs of others while exhibiting appropriate social behavior both within our campus and outside in our larger community, striving to make a difference in the lives of others through service learning projects and activities. We will think globally as we act locally.

The core of Williams is the close-knit community where parents are our partners and students are our focus. At Williams, the home-like atmosphere is supported by a low teacher-to-student ratio and a community where everyone knows your name. This caring environment establishes the atmosphere where a student can grow and explore and discover without fear or misstep, benefitting not only from success but also the occasional failure or disappointment. The long-held tradition of Bigs and Littles fosters relationships between older and younger students giving benefits to friendships beyond peer groups. We will carry Williams into the larger community beyond our campus to include expanded educational, cultural and athletic experiences throughout our expanded neighborhood.

We will strive to maintain a strong partnership with our families who are integral to the effective education and development of our students as well as valuable resources in support of our program.

Our school families will always have frequent opportunities to meet with faculty and school leadership, providing input, sharing their time, talent and treasures that help to ensure the success of students and of the school.

Families at Williams are often members of committees and teams supporting on location at the school or from home and work. Our parents, guardians, and extended family provide support through their input, service, participation, and feedback. Our traditions such as the Family Picnic, Oyster Roast, Grandparents Day, Holiday Feast, and Annual Auction are successful due to the contributions and hard work of many members of our school community.

Parents work with teachers and members of the Leadership Team through the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). This invaluable group of parents and guardians help welcome new families and assist in the organization of grade level activities throughout the year. In addition to PAC, our Admissions Director leads an Admissions Support Team who help with sharing the good news about Williams with prospective families through outreach activities, tours, open house events, and follow-up after tours and events.

The success of any school is directly impacted by the relationship between students’ families and the faculty, staff, and leadership of a school. At Williams, we all work to support one another in order to create the best for our children. We are one family, one school, and one community.

We will strive to maintain a strong partnership with our families who are integral to the effective education and development of our students as well as valuable resources in support of our program.
