Extended Day

About the Program

Extended Day programs at The Williams School provide a safe and nurturing environment for students to learn, grow and play. We encourage individuality, creativity and cooperative behavior through activities such as crafts and games.

Early morning care and breakfast is from 7:15-7:45 a.m. The children enjoy a continental breakfast, juice and milk. Students may participate in activities or quietly study until dismissal to class at 7:45 a.m. Drop off is through the lunchroom door on Fairfax Avenue. Parents must sign in their children.

Extended Day is from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. Our after school program is divided into two age groups:

  • Kindergarten through 4th grade enjoy recess until 4:00 p.m., followed by a snack with juice or milk, then a supervised homework session, 20 minute silent reading time and ending with activity time or simply relaxing with friends.
  • 5th through 8th grade begin with recess until 4:00 p.m., followed by a snack with the option to begin supervised homework earlier. When homework is completed, students spend 20 minutes reading silently before participating in activities and recreation.

Children may come to Extended Day before or after enrichment sessions. See After School Enrichment for more information.

Children sign in at dismissal and must be signed out by their parents or by a person authorized by the parent. If the authorized person is not known by the Extended Day staff, ID will be requested.

The Extended Day programs, other than After School Enrichment, are licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services. There is always one staff member on duty that is certified in First Aid & Adult/Infant CPR/AED and Medication Administration Training (MAT). Each staff member completes 16 hours of continuing education each year.

Camp Williams provides TWS students fun activities on select days when school is not in session and is a component of Extended Day. An emailed itinerary will be sent out two weeks prior to Camp Williams. Priority is given to students already enrolled in the Extended Day program.

Extended Day, Camp Williams and After School Enrichment programs are services of TWS and their philosophy and policies are those of the school as printed in The Williams School Handbook, including discipline and medical administration procedures. Bus service is not provided for those who participate in After School Enrichment programs.
